Dr. Hoang M. Lawrence Nguyen, MD, FACS - Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon in Sioux Falls SD

After being approved for skin removal and a thigh lift and a tummy tuck six months ago I excitedly prepared to fly from California to Sioux Falls to help my daughter during her recovery. We excitedly went to her preop appointment on May 1, 2025. It was at that time that we were informed that there had been a mistake made on the scheduling and that he would not be performing all the procedures. It was blamed on a new nurse. My daughter was treated disrespectfully. The doctor acted like he was doing her a favor by even being willing to do two procedures after saying she was a perfect candidate in October. She had even lost another 49 pounds after the October visit. There was no consideration for all that she had gone through in preparation for this day. The doctor never apologized or took responsibility for the error. They had even taken full payment a few days earlier for her cost of all three procedures. We are completely devastated but clearly dodged a bullet.

My experience with this office has been terrible! At first they were very accommodating to my appointment and the needs of my referring doctor. Upon seeing him he blamed my weight and suggested if I lost weight it would go away. These lumps in my armpits have been growing for almost 2 years due to being on hormones from a hysterectomy in my 20’s. His opinion and my referring drs opinion were very different. When I was asked if I smoked I immediately felt discriminated against and was offered no support for helping me quit when I was almost a 2 pk a day smoker for 20 years and have never had any problems from the other numerous and various surgeries I’ve had in the last 10 years. I would recommend Avera. Much more understanding and you don’t feel rushed or judged or your issue being blamed for being overweight. Absolutely disgusting!!! And don’t leave your honest opinion or concerns or anything on here or you’ll be dropped as a patient like I was. I don’t want anyone to experience what I have with this Dr! Instead of addressing any problems or concerns, which seems more professional, they won’t help you and will leave you in pain with lumps in your armpit that keep growing.

My experience with Dr. Nguyen has been fantastic. He always made sure any questions I had were answered, and his staff was prompt with answering messages on MyChart, and even reaching him after hours was a breeze. There was a minor complication with the surgery, but I don't believe it was anything that was his fault. I feel that he cared about me and my health, and took the best care he could of me.

Phenomenal surgeon! His whole team and him are caring and supportive. I would recommend them to anyone!

This Dr is super professional and he did a wonderful job and gis care team like he’s nurse are super sweet and they really do a great job on me and I will do more stuff with him because his work is amazing I really do recommend him for any cosmetic surgery!!
